SIXES 1997
REVIEW OF TOURNAMENT
With the sun streaming across the rolling open spaces of Penns Place, the usual summer Sunday afternoon noises of kids crying, dogs barking and team mates arguing with each other over who had bought the kit could be heard - and so it came to pass that the first ever DACD cricket sixes got under way at Penns Place, Petersfield on Sunday 6 July.
After traversing the interesting Hampshire countryside the 6 teams that had managed to follow the excellent directions were drawn into 2 groups and they then prepared themselves for a long and enjoyable day of cricket.
The groups were made up as follows :-
Group 1 - East Hants District Council, Raytheon Marine and DACD Dirt Trackers.
Group 2 - South 2 Lions, Bookers Barbarians, DACD Old boys.

The Final
Raytheon Marine batted first with Derek Wood and Andy Crees facing the first over from substitute Matt Jarrett from which 12 runs were scored. The second over from Dave Knott continued with Raytheon on top and went for 14 runs. Skipper Guy Andrews bowled with his usual fire and aggression but still another 7 runs and 4 wides came from his over. In the fourth over , bowled by Mark Baggott, Derek Wood cut loose and 10 runs came from the first 4 balls however sharp work by Richard Maidement behind the wickets ended his innings next ball, stumped for 22 runs. Mark Baggott continued the mini collapse by bowling Tony Sharpe for a golden duck off the last ball of his over. Matt Jennings bowled the final over from which Andy Crees (13 not-out) and Ron Wood ( 1 ) scrambled another 5 runs from some accurate bowling before Richard Maidment stumped Ron Wood when he was tempted to stray from his crease. The innings closed on 52 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
When DACD Old boys batted Dave Knott and Matt Jennings opened, with a run rate of 10 runs / over required to win 14 runs came from the first over bowled by Tony Sharpe. The second over was bowled by Ian Bailey and his nagging accuracy yielded only 4 runs and the wicket of Dave Knott run-out for 4. The third over from Ron Wood produced the wicket of Matt Jennings bowled for 4 runs and another 8 runs off the bat including a massive 6 by Matt Jarrett over mid-wicket. The score had moved onto 26 and the match was evenly balanced. In the fourth over Raytheon stalwart Andy Crees was wheeled on from his hiding place on the cover boundary and his accurate over only went for 8 which meant 18 were needed from the last over to be bowled by Derek Wood. As is the usual case when playing DACD, Derek Wood bowled a devastating over of pace and accuracy which produced the only wicket maiden of the competition when Matt Jarrett was bowled for 12. Mark Baggott (6 not-out) and Guy Andrews (0 not-out) were left high and dry as Raytheon Marine ran out worthy winners by 17 runs.
